Preparation Instructions

In addition to general Procedure Instructions, the following instructions refer to the individual Preparation your doctor has prescribed for your procedure. You will find a list of  approved clear liquids at the bottom of this page.  Please contact our scheduling department if you have any questions at 908-483-4000.

About Preparations

All the preparations we recommend for the procedures we do at the Hunterdon Endosurgery Center are FDA-approved. When scheduling your procedure, your physician will discuss the various preparations and recommend the one that is best for you.

EGD Prep (Morning procedures)

STOP EATING after midnight the night before your morning procedure. DRINK ONLY CLEAR LIQUIDS up to 4 hours prior to your procedure. STOP DRINKING all liquids 4 hours before the scheduled time of your procedure.

EGD Late Prep (After 4 p.m. procedures)

The day of the procedure, you may eat a light breakfast up until 8:00 a.m. After 8:00 a.m. you may ONLY have CLEAR LIQUIDS up to 4 hours prior to your procedure. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

Osmoprep

START DRINKING ONLY clear liquids the day before your procedure based on what time of the day your procedure is scheduled.

If your procedure is scheduled for:

7:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m

You will be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your procedure.

12:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m

You may have a light breakfast of solid foods, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the day before your procedure.

3:30 p.m. or later

You may have a light breakfast and a light lunch of solid food, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the day before your procedure.

The day before your procedure:

At 5:00 p.m.

Take FOUR (4) Osmoprep Tablets with at least 8 ounces of any clear liquid.

Every 15 minutes

Continue taking 4 tablets every 15 minutes until TWENTY (20) tablets have been consumed.

The day of your procedure:

Beginning FIVE (5) hours before your procedure

Take FOUR ( 4) Osmoprep Tablets every 15 minutes with at least 8 ounces of any clear liquid until TWELVE (12) tablets have been consumed.

You may continue with clear liquids until FOUR (4) hours before you are due to arrive here at our office. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

No solid food, milk, or milk products until after the procedure. To prevent dehydration it is important to drink plenty of clear liquids before, during and after the colon prep process.

MoviPrep

The day before your procedure:

Morning – Prepare your MoviPrep solution.

  • Empty ONE (1) pouch A and ONE (1) pouch B into the disposable container.
  • Add lukewarm water to the top line of the container.
  • Mix to dissolve and refrigerate.

Evening – Begin your prep at 6:00 pm.

  • The MoviPrep container is divided by four marks.
  • Every 15 minutes, drink the solution down to the next mark until the full liter is complete.
  • Drink 16 ounces of the clear liquid of your choice.
  • Prepare the second container of MoviPrep just before bedtime and refrigerate.

The day of your procedure:

5 hours before your procedure – Begin the second dose.

  • The MoviPrep container is divided by four marks.
  • Every 15 minutes, drink the solution down to the next mark until the full liter is complete.
  • Drink 16 ounces of the clear liquid of your choice.

Drink only clear liquids until 4 hours before your procedure time. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

Halflytely Single Dose

(for procedures at 11:30 a.m. or earlier)

START DRINKING ONLY clear liquids the day before your procedure based on what time of the day your procedure is scheduled.

If your procedure is scheduled for:

7:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m

You will be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your procedure.

The day before your procedure:

At 3:00 p.m.

Take all 4 Bisacodyl Tablets. You will only receive 2 Bisacodyl Tablets in your prep kit. You will have to purchase additional tablets over the counter (Dulcolax 5mg laxative tablets). DO NOT CHEW OR CRUSH. Do not take the Bisacodyl tablets within 1 hour of taking an antacid.

At 5:00 p.m.

Drink all of the solution. Drink ONE (1) 8-ounce glass every 15 minutes. Drink each glass quickly rather than drinking small amounts continuously. Be sure to drink all of the solution.

No solid food, milk, or milk products until after the procedure. To prevent dehydration it is important to drink plenty of clear liquids before, during and after the colon prep process.

Halflytely Split Dose

START DRINKING ONLY clear liquids the day before your procedure based on what time of the day your procedure is scheduled.

If your procedure is scheduled for:

7:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m

You will be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your procedure.

The day before your procedure:

At 3:00 p.m.

Take all 4 Bisacodyl Tablets. You will only receive 2 Bisacodyl Tablets in your prep kit. You will have to purchase additional tablets over the counter (Dulcolax 5mg laxative tablets). DO NOT CHEW OR CRUSH. Do not take the Bisacodyl tablets within 1 hour of taking an antacid.

At 5:00 p.m.

Drink ONE (1) 8-ounce glass of Halflytely every 15 minutes for a total of FOUR (4) times. (Drink the first one at 5:00 pm and the last one at 5:45 pm.) This is half the bottle. Refrigerate the rest of the bottle until the next morning.

The day of your procedure:

FIVE (5) hours before your scheduled procedure

Drink ONE (1) 8-ounce glass of Halflytely every 15 minutes for a total of FOUR (4) times. This will finish the bottle.

DRINK ONLY clear liquids until FOUR (4) hours before you are due to arrive here at our office. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

No solid food, milk, or milk products until after the procedure. To prevent dehydration it is important to drink plenty of clear liquids before, during and after the colon prep process.

Nulytely Single Dose

START DRINKING ONLY clear liquids the day before your procedure based on what time of the day your procedure is scheduled.

If your procedure is scheduled for:

7:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m

You will be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your procedure.

12:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m

You may have a light breakfast of solid foods, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the day before your procedure.

3:30 p.m. or later

You may have a light breakfast and a light lunch of solid food, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the day before your procedure.

The day before your procedure:

At 2:00 p.m.

Take 2 Dulcolax tablets (laxative tablets) by mouth. This can be purchased over the counter at your local pharmacy. (Be sure that it states laxative on the box.)

At 3:00 p.m.

Begin drinking 1 gallon of Nulytely. You should complete the gallon by 9:00 pm. It is important to make every attempt to drink all of the preparation. If nausea occurs while taking the prep, drink it over a longer period of time.

No solid food, milk, or milk products until after the procedure. To prevent dehydration it is important to drink plenty of clear liquids before, during and after the colon prep process.

Nulytely Split Dose

START DRINKING ONLY clear liquids the day before your procedure based on what time of the day your procedure is scheduled.

If your procedure is scheduled for:

7:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m

You will be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your procedure.

12:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m

You may have a light breakfast of solid foods, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the day before your procedure.

3:30 p.m. or later

You may have a light breakfast and a light lunch of solid food, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the day before your procedure.

The day before your procedure:

At 4:00 p.m.

Take TWO (2) Dulcolax tablets (laxative tablets) by mouth. This can be purchased over the counter at your local pharmacy. (Be sure that it states laxative on the box).

At 5:00 p.m.

begin drinking ONE (1) gallon of Nulytely. You should complete 3/4 or 75% of the gallon by 9:30 pm. It is important to make every attempt to drink all of the preparation. If nausea occurs while taking the prep, drink it over a longer period of time.

The day of your procedure:

  • Begin the last 1/4 (25%) of the gallon of Nulytely FIVE (5) hours before your scheduled procedure.
  • DRINK ONLY clear liquids until FOUR (4) hours before you are due to arrive here at our office. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

No solid food, milk, or milk products until after the procedure. To prevent dehydration it is important to drink plenty of clear liquids before, during and after the colon prep process.

Prepopik

START DRINKING ONLY clear liquids the day before your procedure based on what time of the day your procedure is scheduled.

If your procedure is scheduled for:

7:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m.

You will be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your procedure.

12:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m.

You may have a light breakfast of solid foods, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the day before your procedure.

3:30 p.m. or later

You may have a light breakfast and a light lunch of solid food, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the day before your procedure.

The night before your procedure: PACKET #1

  1. At 6:00 pm fill the dosing cup provided with cold water up to the lower (5-ounce) line on the cup.
  2. Pour in the contents of one (1) packet. Stir for 2-3 minutes until dissolved. Drink the entire contents.
  3. Follow with five (5) 8-ounce drinks of clear liquid, taken at your own pace within the next 5 hours, before bed.

The morning of your procedure PACKET #2:

  • FIVE (5) hours before your procedure REPEAT STEPS ONE and TWO.
  • Follow with at least THREE (3) 8-ounce drinks of clear liquid within the next ONE (1) hour.
  • DRINK ONLY clear liquids until FOUR (4) hours before you are due to arrive here at our office. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

No solid food, milk, or milk products until after the procedure. To prevent dehydration it is important to drink plenty of clear liquids before, during and after the colon prep process.

Sedated Sigmoidoscopy

  • DO NOT EAT after midnight the night before your procedure.
  • DRINK ONLY clear liquids until four (4) hours before you are due to arrive here at our office. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

Prior to your procedure, you will need to administer to yourself 2 Fleet enemas. These can be purchased over the counter at your local pharmacy.

  • 1st Fleet enema: take two (2) hours before your procedure.
  • 2nd Fleet enema: take one (1) hour before your procedure.

Unsedated Sigmoidoscopy

1. Prior to your procedure, you will need to administer to yourself (2) Two Fleet enemas:

  • 1st Fleet enema: take two (2) hours before your procedure.
  • 2nd Fleet enema: take one (1) hour before your procedure.

2. Diet

  • Eat lightly, there is no need to fast

Suprep

START DRINKING ONLY clear liquids the day before your procedure based on what time of the day your procedure is scheduled.

If your procedure is scheduled for:

7:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m.

You will be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your procedure.

12:00 p.m. through 3:00 p.m.

You may have a light breakfast of solid foods, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the day before your procedure.

3:30 p.m. or later

You may have a light breakfast and a light lunch of solid food, then you will be on a clear liquid diet beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the day before your procedure.

The day before your procedure:

  • Start your preparation at 6:00 pm.
  • Pour one (1) 6-ounce bottle of Suprep liquid into the mixing container.
  • Add cool drinking water to the 16-ounce line on the container and mix.
  • Drink all the liquid in the container.
  • You must drink two (2) more 16-ounce containers of water over the next one (1) hour.

The day of your procedure:

  • Begin the second dose five (5) hours before your procedure.
  • Pour one (1) 6-ounce bottle of Suprep liquid into the mixing container.
  • Add cool drinking water to the 16-ounce line on the container and mix.
  • Drink all the liquid in the container.
  • You must drink two (2) more 16-ounce containers of water over the next one (1) hour.
  • DRINK ONLY clear liquids until four (4) hours before you are due to arrive here at our office. Then, STOP drinking all liquids.

The Clear Liquid Diet

Only the following liquids are included for your clear liquid diet:

Water

Black Tea

Black Coffee

Clear Soda (7up, Sprite, Ginger Ale)

(WHITE) Grape Juice

(WHITE) Cranberry Juice

Only Lemon & Lime Flavors for the following:

Jell-O

Italian Ices

Kool Aid

Popsicles

Gatorade

NO MILK & MILK PRODUCTS

NO DAIRY PRODUCTS

NO RED COLORED LIQUIDS
