Summer is really summering this year!
The season is in full swing and boy, is it hot out there. Hopefully, you’re getting in some pool time, fresh fruit, and a little extra time with the family.
As for what’s happening at HGA this summer… we’ve got exciting news to share!
FibroScan is now available at HGA! 🎉
Did you know 1 in 4 adults may have fatty liver disease, often without any symptoms at all?
That’s exactly why we’re excited to introduce FibroScan, our new tool available to help us check in on your liver health before it progresses into something more serious.
What is FibroScan?
It’s a quick, non-invasive test that measures fat in the liver and liver stiffness (a sign of possible scarring). It’s painless, no needles or sedation, and typically takes just a few minutes!
Why is this important?
Fatty liver disease is sneaky. It can develop quietly, without any obvious symptoms, which is exactly why so many people don’t even know they have it. Luckily, when it’s caught early, there’s a lot that can be done to manage it and keep it from advancing.
How do I know if I’m at risk?
There are a few common, everyday factors that can raise your risk:
- Overweight or Obesity
- Type 2 Diabetes or Prediabetes
- High Cholesterol or Triglycerides
- High Blood Pressure
- Metabolic Syndrome
- Family History of Liver Disease
- Elevated Liver Enzymes
- Excessive Alcohol Consumption
Even if you feel well, it’s worth bringing up at your next visit. We’d be happy to talk through whether FibroScan makes sense for you.
Gut-Friendly Recipe: Lemon-Dill Grilled Salmon Skewers
What if the lightest thing on your grill this summer was also the most flavorful?
Salmon and dill have been a long-time classic pairing for a reason. Grill it with fresh lemon and some delicious veggies, and you’ve got an instant crowd-pleaser. Plus, they’re as easy on the gut as they are to fall in love with!
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb skinless salmon fillet, cut into 1.5-inch cubes
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 garlic clove, minced (or 3 tbsp garlic-infused olive oil)
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 lemon, zested (juice optional — use sparingly)
- 2 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped (green parts only)
- 1 tbsp honey (optional, for a light finishing glaze)
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 2 medium zucchini, sliced into thick rounds
- 2 carrots, peeled and sliced into thick rounds
- Fresh dill sprigs, to finish
Instructions
- Whisk together the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, dill, chives, rice vinegar, salt, and pepper.
- Add the salmon and gently toss to coat. Refrigerate 15–20 minutes.
- Soak wooden skewers if using. Preheat grill to medium heat and oil the grates.
- Thread the salmon onto skewers, alternating with zucchini and carrots.
- Grill 2–3 minutes per side until the salmon is just opaque and the vegetables are tender.
- If using honey, brush over the skewers in the last 30 seconds for a light glaze.
- Garnish with dill sprigs and serve warm.
Gut-friendly tip: Garlic, honey, and lemon juice can be triggers for some people. Use the garlic-infused oil instead of raw garlic, skip the honey glaze, and stick with just the lemon zest for brightness if lemon juice is a concern for you. It will still be delicious!
